Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Elsefield Pty Ltd (ACN 686021090) (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Otherwhere mobile application and the website at otherwhere.ai (together, the “Service”).

Information We Collect

Account information. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name, email, and a stable account identifier from your provider. We never see your password.

Subscription information. If you subscribe or purchase credits, the Apple App Store (or Google Play Store) processes the payment and tells us which tier you hold. We never see your payment card details.

Game data. Your in-game progress, choices, characters, and worlds you create. By default this is stored on your device; with cloud sync enabled, copies are stored on our servers so you can play across devices.

Content you create and publish. If you publish a world to our catalog, that world (and the display name attached to it) becomes visible to other players.

Diagnostic and analytics data. Anonymous crash reports and aggregate feature-usage events that help us find bugs and improve the Service. Not tied to advertising.

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • To sync your game data across devices when cloud sync is enabled
  • To distribute worlds you publish to other players
  • To manage subscriptions and entitlements
  • To enforce content safety policies and moderate published content
  • To respond to support requests
  • To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and violations of our Terms
  • To improve the Service through aggregate analytics

We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not share it with advertising networks or data brokers. Analytics data is used only to operate and improve the Service.

AI-Generated Content

Otherwhere uses AI to generate narrative text and images. To make this work, the content you submit during play is sent to AI providers we work with. We configure these providers for minimal retention and contractually prohibit the use of your content to train their models. Generated images pass through content-safety screening.

You may voluntarily share personal or sensitive information in prompts and conversations. We treat such disclosures as part of the in-game narrative and do not extract them for other purposes.

Sensitive Information

We do not request sensitive information (such as health, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, or sexual orientation) for account creation or ordinary service use.

Service Providers

We rely on a small number of service providers to host the Service, deliver content, process payments through the app stores, generate AI narrative and imagery, and collect anonymous analytics and crash diagnostics. They process your data only on our instructions and under written agreements.

The website is hosted on infrastructure provided by Cloudflare, Inc. Sign-in is provided through your Apple or Google account.

If you are in the European Union or United Kingdom, we process your personal data on the following bases:

  • Contract — to provide the Service you signed up for
  • Legitimate interests — diagnostics, security, fraud prevention, and aggregate product analytics
  • Consent — website analytics (opt-in via the cookie banner; revocable at any time via the Cookies Policy)

Australian Privacy Principles

We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We collect only what is reasonably necessary for the functions of the Service.

Data Retention

We retain account data while your account is active. After you delete your account:

  • Your account record, cloud-synced saves, entitlements, and personal preferences are deleted within 30 days, subject to reasonable exceptions for security, fraud prevention, backup rotation, and legal compliance.
  • Worlds you have published to the catalog are retained, but the link to your account is removed and the displayed creator name is replaced with an anonymous label. We do this so that other players who have downloaded or are mid-play in your worlds aren’t disrupted. Drafts and unpublished worlds are deleted.
  • Subscription transaction records are retained for 7 years in accordance with Australian tax law.
  • Anonymous diagnostic and analytics data is retained for up to 14 months.

You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account). If you can’t reach the in-app flow, email support@otherwhere.ai and we’ll process the deletion within 7 days after verifying ownership.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data via the app’s settings and account page
  • Delete your account and associated cloud data from within the app
  • Correct information you’ve provided
  • Opt out of website analytics via the Cookies Policy, or limit mobile diagnostics through your device’s privacy settings

EU/UK users also have rights to restriction of processing, data portability, and objection, and may lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority. Australian users may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC). California users have rights under the CCPA to know, delete, and opt out of the sale of personal information; we do not sell your information.

International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed in Australia, the United States, and other countries where our service providers operate. Where required, we use standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.

Children’s Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Mature content (rated 17+) is gated behind an age verification toggle.

Data Security

We use TLS encryption in transit, access controls, and infrastructure-provider security features. Authentication is handled by Apple or Google — we don’t store passwords. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Where the change is material, we will also notify you in the app or via a banner notice on the website.
